How To Cellphone Wireless "Cracking"/Scanning

by Thinker Email

The process is simple.
As one needs to do is to set the scanner device in the same frequency as cellphones work.

See here for details @ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cellular_frequencies

anyone can be a target and anyone can do it.
So... how private do you think you are keeping your information and what do you think big brother does around without you know ?

Latest about FT

by Thinker Email

It's been a while since some activity around freethinker.ws and that is due to some professional activities and studies that i am currently busy with which will keep me very busy until the end of the year.

For that matter i will only be online with some availability on FT irc and with some blogging activity.

It is also planed some downtime for FT before the end of the year which will be happening to allow some big hardware upgrades ( routers,UPS, Hard drives PCI cards )
This downtime will be announced in advance.

mIRC vs Hydrairc (opensource clone)

by Thinker Email

Link: http://www.hydrairc.com

For all those irc lovers on windows platforms who wish to try HidraIRC as an alternative to other free and non free irc clients.

HidraIRC is win32 software only and it may have interest for users who don't like some open source alternatives for windows like Kvirc (fully featured and excellent interface with encryption built) or Xchat (silverex dist)

While kvirc and xchat are multi platform; HidraIRC is not but it does run under linux with wine.

There is however one big downside with hydrairc Version 0.3.164: it doesnt support SSL. Hopefully it will in the future

HidraIRC is non GPL but opensource and free.

DD-WRT - Better router wireless firmware

by Thinker Email

This post is related to couple videos about Linksys wireless router DD-WRT firmware usage and install that i previously posted.

I must say that from all DD-WRT video presentations that i have seen; this one is by far thee most detailed and complete.

This presentation is provided by http://irongeek.com and you can play it here as a .swf flash media

Quote:
DD-WRT is a Linux firmware available for many Linksys, NetGear, Belkin, D-Link, Fon, Dell, Asus and other vendors wireless routers. DD-WRT is far more feature rich than the stock firmware that comes with most routers. Some of the notable features include: IPv6 support, Wireless Distribution System, Radius, VPN, over clocking capability, software installs, radio output power control, SPI firewalling, QOS controls, bandwidth monitoring, SSH daemon, hotspot software, Samba/CIFS client and much more. In this first video, Ill be doing a simple install of DD-WRT to my recently purchased Linksys WRT310N.

LFTP - sophisticated ftp client

by Thinker Email

Link: http://lftp.yar.ru

Since i am all about console applications; here goes an excellent one that i just created a full featured configuration file.

Lftp is a command-line sophisticated file transfer program (FTP client) for UNIX and Unix-like systems. It was written by Alexander Lukyanov, and is made available under the GNU General Public License.

Besides FTP, it also supports FTPS, HTTP, HTTPS, HFTP, FISH, FXP and SFTP by specifying the desired protocol in a location URL. One feature which is especially handy is support for FXP i.e. data transfers between two FTP servers, bypassing the client machine.

In addition to features common in advanced FTP clients, such as recursively mirroring entire directory trees, location bookmarks and resuming downloads, lftp also supports more advanced functionality. Transfers can be scheduled for execution at a later time, bandwidth can be throttled, transfer queues can be set up, and Unix shell-like job control is supported. The client can be fully scripted, instead of being used interactively.

for those who may wish to save some time and trouble with it's configuration file; here it is the example file

andlinux - run linux software in windows

by Thinker Email

Link: http://www.andlinux.org/

Recently i discovered this very interesting linux project that allows windows to run linux applications as if they were part or installed on windows.

The website is pretty straight forward about it and simple:

andLinux is a complete Ubuntu Linux system running seamlessly in Windows 2000 based systems (2000, XP, 2003, Vista; 32-bit versions only). This project was started for Dynamism for the GP2X community, but its userbase far exceeds its original design. andLinux is free and will remain so, but donations are greatly needed.

andLinux uses coLinux as its core which is confusing for many people. coLinux is a port of the Linux kernel to Windows. Although this technology is a bit like running Linux in a virtual machine, coLinux differs itself by being more of a merger of Windows and the Linux kernel and not an emulated PC, making it more efficient. Xming is used as X server and PulseAudio as sound server.

andLinux is not just for development and runs almost all Linux applications without modification.
